Agentic commerce: optimize for the agent, not just the human
The next buyer is an agent comparing on your customer's behalf. Machine-readable product data, honest availability and plain-text policies decide who gets shortlisted — audit one flagship page this quarter.

Soon the buyer is not a person browsing — it is an agent comparing. Shopping assistants that browse, compare and shortlist on a customer's behalf are moving from demos to daily use. Stores built only for human eyes will be unreadable to the agents doing the choosing.
What does an agent need that humans don't?
Machine-readable everything. Complete product data, real availability, honest prices, clear policies — structured, current, and in HTML rather than images or scripts. An agent cannot squint at a banner or infer a price from a vibe. If it is not structured, it does not exist.
What breaks first in agent commerce?
Checkout ambiguity and stale data. Wrong stock status, hidden fees surfacing late, policies buried in PDFs — humans forgive these with a chat message; agents simply move to the next candidate. Accuracy becomes conversion rate. Every stale field is a lost shortlist spot.
How should a brand prepare this quarter?
Audit one flagship product page for machine-readability. Structured data complete, availability honest, price current, policies plain-text. Then scale the pattern. The brands agents can read are the brands agents recommend.
