"Just a logo" later costs a system. A lone mark with no colours, fonts or rules forces every future asset to guess — and guessing compounds into inconsistency, then into a full rebrand to fix it. The cheapest logo is the one that arrives with its system.
What is the minimum viable brand?
Suite, colours, type, voice note, one-page guide. Primary logo plus compact mark, exact colour values, two typefaces, a paragraph on voice, and one page of dos and don'ts. A day's extra work that saves a year's drift.
When is logo-only actually fine?
When it is explicitly phase one with phase two dated. Early validation, single landing page, no team yet — ship the mark, but schedule the system before hiring, printing, or scaling ads. Temporary is fine; accidental permanent is not.
What should founders demand at handover?
Vectors, values, and rules. SVG/EPS masters, print and screen colour values, font names, and the one-page guide. If a designer cannot hand these over, you bought decoration, not identity.
